With the demand for social media specialists rising, Casper College will be offering a new social media certificate program for the fall 2027 semester.
The certificate, requiring 15 total credit hours over two semesters, equips students with practical skills in digital marketing, content creation, media writing, and communication strategy. Participants of the program develop social media campaigns, analyze performance metrics, and build a professional portfolio. Additionally, students will learn about branding, content creation, analytics, and advertising.
The program focuses on applied learning in order for participants to immediately translate skills learned in the classroom to the workplace. It is designed for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and aspiring marketers.
“Something that I try and make the point about in mass media is that we all use it, but to be on the reverse side and be the one creating what people see, that’s a whole different game. This coursework is really tailored to how do you make the content that people see. It’s not like a random thing. It’s very strategic, and you have to be very careful on what you publish and who you publish to and how you respond,” said communication instructor Brianne Weigel.
Social media is becoming more important for businesses, and this certificate program seeks to help students learn career-ready skills in a short time frame.
“I always tell media students ‘you are needed.’ The demand for help in our digital world is high. The hope is this social media certificate allows students to confidently enter the workforce and start to fill those gaps,” Weigel added.
Weigel is a member of the communication faculty at Casper College. She teaches courses on the media, public speaking, content creation, and other areas. She is faculty adviser for the Chinook, Casper College’s student newspaper since 1945.
Established in 1945, Casper College is one of the largest and most comprehensive community colleges in the region. Located in Casper, Wyoming, the college offers more than 130 academic programs and certificates, providing an “Education for a Lifetime” through a student-first approach.
