The popular Fall Collage Concert will showcase the breadth of the Casper College Music Department, with performances spanning classical masterworks and contemporary compositions, Friday, Oct. 2, beginning at 7 p.m. This year’s Fall Collage Concert will feature the Casper College Chamber Orchestra, Collegiate Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Concert Band. Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening of diverse choral and instrumental music. Admission is free and open to the public.
Four Ensembles Highlight Annual Fall Collage Concert
The Casper College Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Jennifer DePaolo, will perform “St. Anthony Choral” by F.J. Haydn, “Gavotte” by J.B. Lully, “Fantasia for Strings” by E. Del Borgo, and “Concerto Grosso No. 1 in G Major, Op. 6, No. 1” by G.F. Handel. The final piece will feature violin soloists Linsey Thomason and Amy Bloyd and cello soloist Arlon Miller.
The Casper College Collegiate Chorale and Chamber Singers are both under the direction of Zachary Vreeman and feature collaborative pianist Paula Flynn. The chorale will perform “Musica est Dei donum optimi” by Orlando di Lasso, “How Can I Keep from Singing” by Robert Lowry featuring Ruby Martin on clarinet, “The Lady in the Water” by Eric William Barnum, and “The Awakening” by Joseph M. Martin.
The chamber singers will perform “Vier Quartette,” the fourth piece in Johannes Brahms’ “Vier Quartette,” Op. 92, a collection for mixed voices. The lyrics come from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s poem “Warum?” The chamber singers will continue with “The Last Rose of Summer,” billed as a traditional Irish folk melody, “Swifter than Flame” by Elaine Hagenberg, “Rest” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and “Nyon Nyon” by Jake Runestad.
The Casper College Band, under the direction of Cara Sommers, will perform “Spring Will Come Again” by Randall D. Standridge, “Flight of the Ravens” by Carol Brittin Chambers, “(Un)veiling” by Tyler S. Grant, “The Art of Espionage” by Travis Weller, “Someone to Watch Over Me” by George and Ira Gershwin, and “Russian Sailor’s Dance” from the ballet “The Red Poppy” by Reinhold Glière.
Wyoming Music Educator Featured as Guest Soloist
Special guest soloist Leah Hoblit will perform with the band on “Someone to Watch Over Me.” According to her biography, Hoblit is a dedicated music educator with 13 years of experience inspiring students through music. Hoblit studied music education at Concordia College, where she had the opportunity to study under mezzo-soprano Holly Janz and renowned conductor and composer René Clausen. She then attended the University of Wyoming, where she earned her master’s in music education. A middle school music and choir teacher in Wyoming, she is passionate about helping students develop their musical skills while building confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of singing.
Hoblit is also a member of the Skyline Singers, a chamber choir in residence at Sheridan College. Her biography also notes that Hoblit has dedicated her time to advancing music education in Wyoming by serving as vice president of the Wyoming Music Educators board, working with the Casper Children’s Chorale, and helping direct community choirs across the state. “(I am) grateful for the opportunity to share (my) love of choral music with (my) students and community.”
