Casper College has added two new degrees, three certificates, and updated a degree program for the 2018-2019 school year.

The new degrees are in American Sign Language studies, and kinesiology and health promotion. The new certificates are for coachingpersonal training, and foundations of interprofessional health care. The updated degree program is in cybersecurity.

The American Sign Language studies degree is designed to provide for further work with deaf people and will allow students to develop their knowledge of ASL and the culture of deafness in North America and around the world. The Associate of Arts degree in ASL studies provides a foundational curriculum within the liberal arts framework and is designed for students to acquire competencies necessary to transfer to ASL studies, ASL interpreting, or deaf education baccalaureate programs for a career as a language interpreter, teacher of the deaf, speech pathologist, and more.

The kinesiology and health promotions degree will provide students with a foundation to explore the areas of health promotion, clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, basic science, behavior science, sports, and physical education. This Associate of Science degree is intended for students who plan to transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree and enter the field of medicine, specifically within the related areas of allied health professions.

The three new certificates will all be offered through the Casper College School of Health Science and include coaching, personal training, and leadership development for future healthcare professionals.

The coaching certificate will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become an endorsed coach through the Wyoming Professional Teachers Standards Board. Other certificates which relate well to the coaching certificate available at Casper College include first aid and CPR.

The personal training certificate program is designed to prepare individuals for certification as a personal trainer, which can lead to employment in health and fitness clubs, wellness centers, public and private recreation facilities, hospitals, and corporate fitness programs. Certified personal trainers perform a variety of instructional and administrative duties for their clients including but not limited to instruction in human anatomy and physiology, fitness techniques, exercise science, personal training, nutrition, and customer service.

A two-semester program, the foundations of interprofessional healthcare certificate program will be available to admitted or pre-health science students. The program is designed to provide leadership and development for future healthcare professionals who will be expected to work as team members on an interprofessional healthcare team.

Finally, the computer security degree has been updated and renamed cybersecurity. The renamed and revamped degree program blends theory and practice into a learning experience that develops skills applicable to complex real-world problems while training students to find and remove data from a variety of digital media and protect computer information systems from malignant uses, computer viruses, and emerging digital threats. The program is designed for students who complete the program to have the necessary skills needed for immediate employment as an IT support person in an information assurance line of work.

Casper College offers more than 140 degree and certificates and is currently accepting applications for the fall semester which begins August 20.
