‘Health and Ecology in the Amazon’ topic of Zimmerman

Patricia Alvarez, Ph.D., will present “Health and Ecology in the Amazon” at the Zimmerman Biology Lecture Series on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.

Alverez, an associate researcher at CIMA, Cordillera Azul, Peru, will discuss her work as a forest ecologist and nurse in the Peruvian Amazon.

Alveraz will discuss her experience in Manu National Park and other Amazonian regions in Peru and Ecuador. A forest ecologist, she specializes in botany and plant pathology. She monitors wildlife using wildlife monitoring camera traps.

Alvarez also has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Duke University, where she worked in the intensive care unit during COVID-19 and then in the cancer, surgery, and apheresis units.

The Zimmerman Biology Lecture Series is free and open to the public and will take place in the Wheeler Auditorium, Room 103, of the Wold Physical Science Center, located on the Casper College Campus.
