Oil City News readers have chosen the Tate Geological Museum as the Best Museum in Casper for 2026 as part of Oil City’s Best Reader’s Choice 2026 competition. The recognition also marks the second consecutive year that the Tate has placed No. 1 in the museums category.
“We were pleased to have won this award two years in a row. It really speaks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and students who make our museum a standout in a community of extraordinary Casper museums,” said Dalene Hodnett, director of museums at Casper College.
“The Tate is one of the college’s premier outreach tools and remains accessible and relevant to students, the community, and visitors,” said Casper College President Brandon Kosine.
Tate Geological Museum: A Hub for Research and Community
The museum is known nationally and internationally and serves as a research hub for amateur and professional paleontologists alike. According to Hodnett, the school was visited last week by a researcher from the Netherlands and two from universities: one from Claremont College in California and the other from the University of Florida.
The museum is free and open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located at 2332 Lisco Dr. at the southern end of the Casper College campus, near the T. rex sculpture.
