‘More Dinosaurs!’ exciting topic of March Saturday Club

You can never know too much about dinosaurs, and students will learn more exciting aspects of dinosaurs during “More Dinosaurs!” the topic of the March 2 Saturday Club.

Participants will discover how certain carnivorous dinosaurs were able to prey upon herbivores much larger than themselves by hunting in packs, according to Russell Hawley, education specialist.

“We’ll go beyond the monsters of ‘Jurassic Park’ (movies) to explore how dinosaurs really lived, hunted, and grew,” said Hawley. In addition to charting the history of the ceratopsian dinosaurs like Triceratops to see how body size changed over time, students will be able to speculate about why it happened.

Dinosaur tape making is also part of the session as each person will create a tape the same length as their favorite dinosaur species and then roll it out along the hallway to see how big it was. Finally, “You’ll draw your dinosaur on a scale page to see how tall it would look standing next to a human being,” Hawley said, adding, “The color is still up to you, so don’t be afraid to get creative!”
