Community Ed to celebrate Irish song and food with two classes
The Casper College Community Education department is offering a celebration of Irish music and cuisine with two classes.
“The Music of Ireland” will lead participants on a journey through Ireland’s rich cultural history, where they will gain a deeper understanding of Irish music and its nuances from the 19th century to today. The class will be led by world-renowned, award-winning, and Billboard charting Irish crossover violinist Gregory Harrington.
“Students will explore the historical context and the social, cultural, and political influences shaping Irish music and listen to Mr. Harrington perform well-known Irish songs and ballads,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator. Harrington’s talk and performance are offered in partnership with ARTCORE. The class will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Then, be sure to come and join community education as they present the “International Dinner Series: Ireland.” During the event on Thursday, March 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., participants will enjoy authentic Irish cuisine, educational displays, and two presentations. Hanz Olson, librarian and archivist at the Western History Center at Casper College, will examine Irish settlers’ archival records in Wyoming. Makayla Ruebush, writer, journalist, and community education instructor, will explore the world of Irish folklore trends.
