Student Employment at Casper College
Visit the CC Student Success Center for information on available on-campus jobs and off-campus jobs.
Two types of student jobs
Casper College provides many job opportunities on campus, with funding coming from two sources: the college itself (institutional funding) and the federal government (federal funding). Students are welcome to apply for any job that interests them. However, some jobs are reserved for students who receive federal work study as part of their financial aid package.
Work Study
The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) increases students’ opportunities to earn money by working part-time during the school year (up to 19 hours per week) and full-time during the summer months and school breaks. This allows eligible students to earn paychecks to help support their educational expenses through on-campus jobs.
Award amounts vary. The current hourly rate for on-campus employment is set at $12/hour for all positions.
Eligibility Requirements
The college receives an annual budget of FWS funds from the federal government and offers the available funds to students who demonstrate higher levels of financial need. Students without FWS awards may still pursue part-time job opportunities on campus but should note that positions may not be available without financial need.
- You must meet the federal general Eligibility Requirements
- This aid program requires financial need.
Program Benefits
- FWS awards cannot be used to defer payments on your college bill. Instead, FWS student employees receive monthly paychecks for their hours worked, and can spend those earnings on their living and other educational expenses.
- Work hours are scheduled around your class times.
- FWS jobs are on-campus.
- FWS earnings are exempt from FICA deductions if you are enrolled in at least 6 credits.
Program Restrictions
- To earn FWS funds, you must work for a Casper College department.
- For each academic year, your total CC job earnings cannot exceed the FWS award amount listed on your financial aid notification.
- You can work up to 19 hours per week during the school year and may be able to work full-time during the summer and school breaks if you have enough remaining FWS funds to pay the extra hours.
- Earnings from the FWS program are subject to all applicable federal, state and local taxes.
- If FWS utilization rates exceed available funding, CC reserves the right to limit new FWS hiring on a first hired basis.
Applying for FWS Jobs
- To apply for FWS funds, you must submit a FAFSA and must demonstrate financial need.
- Funding is limited. If we are able to offer you funds, the federal work study offer will be listed on your Award Notification.
- Before you can pursue an FWS job, you must first complete all the steps in the instructions for accepting aid.
- Next, search the Career Service’s listings of work study jobs and other employment opportunities.
Remember to complete the FAFSA every year!
Complete the FAFSA online using your FSA ID (Casper College School Code: 003928). The priority deadline for applying for federal financial aid is early March for the fall semester and early October for the spring semester.
