Rock art exhibit featuring horses on display at alumni gallery
“Rock Art in Wyoming: Themes in Rock Art from the Casper College Foundation Fine Art Collection” will be displayed at the Casper College Alumni Association Art Gallery August 21-September 8.
“Rock drawings occur all across Wyoming and were made from the time people first entered the area, about 14,000 years ago, to historic times,” noted Valerie Innella Maier, Ph.D., visual arts instructor. The renderings provide information on religious beliefs, hunting, warfare between groups, fertility rites, and cultural changes over time.
The free exhibition is paired with a theme often seen in rock art worldwide: the image of horses. “The selections from the Casper College Foundation Fine Art Collection depict the horse in more recent art, especially from the 20th- 21st centuries,” Innella Maier noted.
The Casper College Alumni Association Art Gallery is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and is located in the Dick and Marialyce Tobin Visual Arts Center on the Casper College campus.
