Advanced Emergency Medical Technician — A-EMT
The AEMT is the next level of progression of the licensed or certified prehospital care professional. An AEMT will focus on continued patient care from the EMT level while incorporating limited advanced treatment and care. Limited advanced treatment allows for enhanced patient care during a critical incident.
What course would I take?
- EMT 2500
- The AEMT course at Casper College is an eight-credit, approximately 180 hours, one-semester course. Upon successful completion, you are eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs cognitive and psychomotor exams. Following completion of cognitive and psychomotor exams, candidates are eligible to work in all states that accept the National Registry Certification. Continued education will enhance patient care.
What are the special admission requirements, if any?
- As a reminder, students must apply to Casper College as degree-seeking or nondegree-seeking students.
- Candidates will need to apply to the AEMT course.
- Candidates will need a current National Registry Certification that does not expire during the course.
- Candidates will need to obtain Wyoming State EMT Certification.
- Candidates will need to provide a current AHA BLS Provider card that does not expire during the course.
- Instructor permission and/or approval is required for this course.
- Any student considering and/or selected for any EMS Course is required to submit and pass a background check. This will be discussed in detail within the first week of your course.
How many students are selected per semester?
- Twelve students per semester will be selected for this course.
- A minimum of 10 students must be registered one week before the start of courses in order to run this course.
How is this course taught?
- The Advanced EMT course is taught via traditional in-person learning along with hybrid online learning. Students are able to partake in the hybrid learning option via Zoom lectures. Students will be required to attend in-person specialty certifications, lab days, and guest lectures when indicated in the course outline and course syllabus.
