Sentimental holiday fare next at Krampert Theatre
“An O. Henry Christmas” will run on the Susie and Mick McMurry Stage Dec. 1-3 and 8-10 at 7:30 p.m.
Written by California Repertory Company Artistic Producing Director Howard Burman, the show is based on several of O. Henry’s short stories, including “The Gift of the Magi,” “Two Thanksgiving Gentlemen,” and “The Last Leaf.” Burman weaves together a magical tale, bringing O. Henry’s charming stories to life, according to TheaterMania.
“I am very excited to be directing this play. I was part of the original production at California Repertory Company in Long Beach, California,” said Chontelle Gray, director. “When we were discussing this season, I suggested this play because it is a lovely play about human connection and the spirit of the holiday season,” Gray added.
The play tells the tale of a mysterious storyteller on the outskirts of New York City on Christmas Eve, 1893. The storyteller, who goes by the name “O.P.,” entertains a rag-tag group of homeless folks by spinning a few tales. His stories rekindle the spirit of giving as he transforms the crew into players who stage O. Henry’s works.
While Gray is directing, Rich Burk, theater instructor, will take on Gray’s traditional role as scenic and lighting designer. “I am thrilled to be directing this play, and that Rich would take on my regular role as scenic and lighting designer,” Gray said. This will be a beautiful play for the whole family and a grand launch to the holiday season. I hope the community will join us.

Tickets for each performance are $12 for adults and $10 for students aged 5 to 18. An American Sign Language interpreted performance will take place on Dec. 8, and a matinee will be on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.
