‘Black Dog’ recital set for Sept. 20

A recital of clarinet music titled “Black Dog” will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Wheeler Concert Hall.

The recital is headlined by clarinetist Joshua R. Mietz, DMA, and pianist Paula Flynn. The recital will also feature Casper College Music Faculty members Delores Thornton, flute; Richard Turner, bassoon; and the University of Wyoming’s Blake McGee, DMA, clarinet.

The “Black Dog” recital will feature Scott McAllister’s 2002 piece, “Black Dog.” The piece is derived from themes of the Led Zeppelin song by the same name. “McAllister sought to create a work for clarinet where the clarinetist is featured in the same manner as a guitarist in a rock band,” noted Mietz.

The audience will also be treated to Carl Maria von Weber’s “Concertino,” Amicare Ponchielli’s “ll Convegno,” and Louis Cahuzac’s “Variations sur un air du Pays D’Oc.”
