Celebrate today with Casper College graduates
Today is the day to celebrate with the Casper College graduating class of 2020 via a virtual graduation ceremony beginning at 3 p.m.
The ceremony can be viewed at the college’s Facebook page or its YouTube page. Everyone viewing is encouraged to join in the celebration by engaging on social media using the hashtag #CCBirds2020.
The approximate hour and 15-minute ceremony will have all of the elements of an in-person graduation ceremony. The ceremony will start with pianist Eric Unruh, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Humanities, playing music he composed for the ceremony. Casper College graduating music major Lauren Podjun will then perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Messages to the graduates will also be given by Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, Casper College President Darren Divine, and other college officials. Student Senate President, Riley Box, and student speaker Morryah McCurdy will also take the stage. McCurdy was named earlier this year as the 2019-2020 Student of the Year by the Wyoming Association of Community College Trustees.
Each graduate was encouraged to participate in the ceremony by providing a photo and their own message to the important people in their life. Richard Burk, theater instructor, will also announce the graduate as their photo is presented.
A total of 178 graduates will be participating in the virtual commencement, while 669 students qualified for graduation, earning a total of 644 degrees and 169 certificates. Casper College graduates come from 28 states other than Wyoming and seven foreign countries. All 23 Wyoming counties are also represented. Of the eight graduating international students, six will be participating in today’s ceremony.
