The Western History Center at Casper College will host the new documentary “HOLE IN THE WALL: THE ULTIMATE OUTLAW FORTRESS” Friday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Wheeler Concert Hall, located in the Music Building on the Casper College campus. The Western History Center is covering the cost of admission, so anyone wishing to see the documentary can do so at no charge.
Award-Winning HOLE IN THE WALL Documentary Screening and Director Q and A
According to the “HOLE IN THE WALL” documentary website, “’HOLE IN THE WALL’ is a documentary feature film that is as textured, majestic, and inspiring as the land it explores and celebrates. Rustic stories and the legends passed down by local families revive the heirloom spirit of our old American West.”
The documentary came to the attention of Casper College librarian and archivist Hanz Olson. Olson noted that, because he has archival responsibilities at the Casper College Western History Center, he is always seeking to build relationships with researchers and the community. One of those researchers was Roy Barnes, who suggested that Casper College would be an ideal location to host a screening of “HOLE IN THE WALL.”
That suggestion led to the documentary’s premiere in Natrona County at Casper College, followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Stephen Howard Tucker, owner of Bighorn Films LLC. The film, commissioned by the Johnson County Tourism Association, won Best Rocky Mountain Feature at the 2026 Spark of Madness Film Festival and received an award at the 2026 Wyoming International Film Festival. It is also an official selection of the 2026 Black Hills Film Festival and the 2026 Depth of Field International Film Festival.
Preserving Regional Western Heritage Through Film and Community
Olson said he felt it was important for the Western History Center and the Goodstein Foundation Library to bring the film to the Casper community. “Our goal is to keep historical resources accessible and impactful. Bringing this film to campus is a natural extension of that mission, a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate Casper College’s core values of community, connection, and hard work. It bridges local history with our campus, giving students and residents a shared cultural experience that celebrates human stories,” he said.
According to Olson, viewing the documentary will be a wonderful way to explore the spirit of the West. “Seeing a history like this on screen often sparks a deeper curiosity, and we hope it inspires attendees to visit our gallery, exhibit spaces, and/or the Western History Center to do their own digging into local lore and primary sources,” Olson noted.
The screening of “HOLE IN THE WALL” also coincides with American Archives Month in October. During American Archives Month, the Western History Center invites the community, including students, researchers, and history enthusiasts, to stop by and explore the WHC’s historical primary sources related to the Hole-in-the-Wall Fight or other events and people. According to Olson, the process is easy and can be done in person or online. “Archival researchers can start a journey into primary sources with the online research form from wherever they are, on or off campus,” he said.
