Wyoming Housing Network to offer free financial class at Casper College

The Wyoming Housing Network Inc. and Casper College are partnering to host a free Financial Foundations Course. The course begins on Friday, Oct. 2, and will continue for three more Fridays, Oct. 9, 16, and 23. All classes run from 2-3:30 p.m.

The free course will help all participants develop the financial skills everyone needs in daily life. In addition, those who attend all four classes will earn a financial foundations certificate.

The four areas to be covered include goal setting, budgeting, saving and debt management, and understanding credit.

Students will learn better money management as they learn to budget, save, and manage expenses more effectively. They will be able to improve their credit as they learn to understand credit reports and scores and to build or repair credit, which can help them qualify for better loans.

Debt management skills will be learned through strategies aimed at reducing debt, which can improve an individual’s debt-to-income ratio, a key factor for lenders. Through these classes, students will gain confidence in making financial decisions as they become better prepared to compare products and budget.

Finally, some employers, housing programs, and nonprofits recognize and value a financial foundations certificate as proof that someone has taken steps toward financial responsibility.
