Beginner Rumba, Pocket Billiards Beginner, Dementia Caregiver Resources, Dreams. Art. Self., 3D Decor Design, Meet the Artist: TAIKOPROJECT, and more entertaining classes will be offered in October at Casper College. “Community education is a chance to discover something new, have fun learning, and expand your horizons, whether you’re trying a new hobby or building skills for the future,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator.

Entertaining classes set for October at Casper College

In Beginner Rumba, step into the rhythm and practice the classic box step with smooth “slow, quick, quick” timing. Taught by instructors Stephanie Anderson and Chris Paden, the class helps participants build signature Cuban motion, improve coordination and memory, and enjoy light, energizing movement. According to Gallegos, the class is a perfect date night or a way to meet new friends as participants learn Rumba in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Beginner Rumba is open to all levels and will take place Thursday, Oct. 1 through 22, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Learn the entertaining and relaxing game of pocket billiards in Pocket Billiards Beginner, taught by Matthew Wulfert. According to Wulfert, students will learn the fundamentals of billiards, also known as pool, with a focus on both fun and skill-building while exploring basic rules and popular game types such as 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball. Key techniques, including stance, bridge, break, and accurate shooting, will be taught, along with proper etiquette and sportsmanship. Supplies and equipment will be provided, but students may bring their own cue if desired. The class is also kid-friendly and suitable for those 12 and older. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pocket Billiards Beginner will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, through 28, from 6-8 p.m.

Presented by the staff of Wyoming Dementia Care and Mountain Plaza Assisted Living and Memory Care, Dementia Caregiver Resources will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 5:30-7 p.m. “Understanding a dementia diagnosis is imperative for healthy living,” said Gallegos. According to Gallegos, the class will provide participants with information about the cognitive condition and how to support someone living with dementia. Participants will also discuss the challenges caregivers face, ways to engage meaningfully with their loved ones, how to build a support team for caregivers, and the community resources available to them.

Dreams. Art. Self. will take students on an exploration of dreams through Carl Jung’s work on archetypes, imagination, and the unconscious. Taught by Deborah Lopez, the course will help students discover how dream images connect to personal and collective experience and examine archetypes in art history. Students will also record dreams in a journal and, in their own time, express them creatively through drawing or other art forms to expand awareness. Dreams. Art. Self. will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13, through 27, from 6:30-8 p.m.

Instructor Steven Howe will guide students into 3D design with the goal of becoming a creator, and not just a downloader. In 3D Decor Design, students will explore basic geometry and 3D space while designing a functional item such as a custom planter or phone stand. During class, students will practice advanced slicing techniques, adjusting color, speed, strength settings, and more. Supplies and 3D printers will be provided for the class. 3D Decor Design will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, through Nov. 10, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Finally, enjoy a special daytime performance by TAIKOPROJECT, the first American taiko group to win the prestigious 2005 Tokyo International Taiko Contest. “Attendees will revel in the powerful rhythms and sounds of modern American taiko, blending traditional forms with a fresh, innovative aesthetic,” said Gallegos. Following the performance, a Q&A will allow attendees to gain insight into the creative process behind TAIKOPROJECT’s dynamic production. The afternoon performance will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 12:45-2 p.m. and is presented in partnership with ARTCORE.
