Wyoming’s highest court is taking its work to Casper College on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Wyoming Supreme Court Session at Casper College
The Wyoming Supreme Court will convene in Casper for a public oral argument followed by an interactive educational program for students and community members.
The Court will hear Hurd v. Hurd, a family trust dispute, starting at 10 a.m. in Wheeler Concert Hall in the Music Building on the Casper College campus at 1451 Lisco Drive. The Court normally sits in Cheyenne, making the Casper session a unique local opportunity to observe the Court firsthand.
At 11 a.m., following the argument, the Court, in partnership with Casper College, the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the District of Wyoming, and the Natrona County Bar Association, will host “You Be The Judge,” a hands-on program built around a mock oral argument. Local attorneys will argue a mock case while students from Casper College step into the role of the justices and issue a ruling.
The Court will also recognize Miriam Washut of Lander, the winner of the Presidential 1776 Award, a nationwide civics competition. Washut received a $150,000 scholarship and recognition by President Donald Trump.
“This program gives us the chance to show students and citizens how the Judicial Branch works, and why we are so dedicated to upholding the rule of law with an emphasis on transparency,” said Chief Justice Lynne Boomgaarden. “We’re grateful to Casper College and volunteers for their partnership in making this possible.”
