Captivating music of Leonard Bernstein highlights Casper College Concert
The Casper College Band and the Casper College Collegiate Chorale will perform the captivating music of world-renowned composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein at “The Music of Leonard Bernstein” concert on Friday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Wheeler Concert Hall.
According to Joshua R. Mietz, DMA, the four Bernstein pieces chosen for the concert demonstrate the breadth of Bernstein’s talents as a composer. The Bernstein compositions selected for the concert are “Warm-up,” “Make Our Garden Grow,” music from “West Side Story,” and the suite from “Mass.”
The Casper College Collegiate Chorale will also perform music from Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Randall Thompson, and George and Ira Gershwin. In contrast, The Casper College Band will perform additional music from John Philip Sousa and Ben Blessing. Blessing’s piece, “Grandma’s Coat,” was commissioned by a consortium including the Casper College Music Department. “This is the second time the piece has been performed. Funding was provided in part by the Casper College Fine Arts Endowment,” said Mietz.
The Casper Collegiate Chorale, under the direction of Zachary Vreeman, DMA, are sopranos Katie Baumstarck, Danica Boyce, Emma Gustaf, Ruby Martin, Jillian Mascarenas, Emma Mayfield, and Micah Hebbert. Altos include Madison Billings, Olivia Judkins, Jordan Napier, Lindsey Scott, and Tash Wyse. Tenors include Eian Eco, Owen LaCount, Kadyn Riley, Josh Simon, Karen Sandoval, and Lex Plakki. The basses include Jackson Cochran, Collin Jones, Kevin Kaske, Joshua Knutson, Marcos Martinez, and Eddie Sieber.
Members of the Casper College Band, under the direction of Mietz, are Jenna Farley and Delores Thornton, flute; Isaac Miller, oboe; Alexandra Vincent, Tre Weant, Ruby Martin, and Abigail Nguyen, clarinet; Richard Turner and Mala Stagg, bassoon; Wiliam Weader, Joshua Robles, Dylan Mazzanti, Aidan Murphy, and Jaromiah Taylor, saxophone; Ozzy Ness, Josh Nicholson, and Eternity Thunder-Tophia, trumpet; Michael Pryczynski and Virginia Hazen, horns; Jackson Richard, Isaac Vreeman, and Jeff Hanni, trombones; Titus Vreeman, euphonium; and Zachary Vreeman, tuba.
“The Music of Leonard Bernstein” is free to the public. Wheeler Concert Hall is located in the Music Building on the Casper College campus.
