No. 1 Casper College Women’s Soccer hosts LCCC in Region 9 semifinal tournament
Following a seven-game winning streak, the Casper College Lady Thunderbirds Soccer team is ready for the Region 9 semifinal tournament against the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 26, on Murane Field at 11 a.m.
The Thunderbirds ranked No. 1 in Region 9, go into the semifinals with an 8-0-1 record in conference play and a 10-2-3 overall record. The No. 4 Golden Eagles come into the match with a 6-6-2 record in conference play and a 9-4-3 overall record.
The T-Birds come into the semifinal after receiving a first-round bye. “This past season, we were 10-2-3 and 8-0-1 in the conference, meaning that we have been undefeated in conference play for the last two years and have only lost one conference game in the last three years,” said Jocelyn Norcross, assistant coach. “We set a single-game win margin record (this year) with our 14-0 win against Trinidad State. We have outscored our opponents 49-10,” Norcross noted.
The Golden Eagles made it to second-round play with a 4-0 win over the Gillette College Lady Pronghorns on Oct. 19. “We have had some key players injured during the season, but going into this game, all of our players are recovered and available to play so we are looking forward to a good matchup,” Norcross said.
According to Norcross, two players have not only helped the team compile the win records and No. 1 standing in Region 9 but now hold Casper College records. Sophomore midfielder Macy Stickler, Smithfield, Utah, broke the single-season scoring record with 10 goals so far this season and the all-time scoring record with 16. Sophomore goalkeeper Emmy Finlinson, Eagle Mountain, Utah, currently holds the record for lowest goals-against average at .66.
The semifinal winner will play the winner of the other semifinal, which will also take place on Saturday between the No. 2 ranked Western Wyoming Community College Lady Mustangs and the No. 3 ranked Northwest College Lady Trappers.
Admission is free, and the game will also be livestreamed here.
