Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The GEAR UP Work Study provides mentoring and tutor support to student participants at the Casper College site of the statewide consortium for the GEAR UP grant (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs).

Responsibilities:
The GEAR UP Work Study is responsible for assisting with the organization and logistics of the GEAR UP after school program, ACE. The GEAR UP Work Study assists the after-school program by setting up snacks, monitoring youth behaviors, enforcing GEAR UP community standards, and cleaning up at the end of each day. Additionally, they may assist with some basic clerical duties such as shredding documents, filing, prepping mailings, etc.

GEAR UP is intended to significantly increase the number of low-income Natrona County students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The program focuses on students grades seven through twelve, their families and schools in the county.

Essential job duties:
• Serve as a positive role model for GEAR UP participants who are 7th-12th grade students
• Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with middle level students and Casper College staff.
• Understanding of the skills necessary for educational success.
• Setting up and clean up at the end of each day.
• Monitoring youth behaviors and enforcing GEAR UP community standards.
• Help tutor students in any academic area in which they are struggling, especially Math.
• Make appropriate referrals related to personal issues, such as relationships, bullying, substance use, suicide, family violence, etc.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrate excellent skills in organization, planning, and implementation
• Work as a member of a team
• Assist with clerical office tasks such as shredding documents, filing, prepping mailings, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking student, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at CC or a partnership institution. Minimum Qualifications
• Must pass a background check.
• Must be available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2pm-6pm
