Grants are need-based allotments of money that do not have to be repaid.
Federal Grants
You’ll automatically receive all your federal grants, if eligible, by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so complete your FAFSA early. You’ll be notified of any grants you receive in your financial offer letter. Casper College School Code: 003928.
Certain scenarios may require that a portion or all of the grant funds be repaid, for example, if you withdraw from school before finishing an enrollment period such as a semester. More general info about federal grants.
2024-2025 FAFSA applicants – please note the FAFSA will not open on October 1, 2023. It is expected to open in December 2023, but in the meantime, you may estimate the amount of your federal aid using the Federal Student Aid Estimator.
Other Grants
Other grants will have their own application and eligibility requirements.
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Pell Grants are awarded based upon completion of the FAFSA. Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is used to determine eligibility for this award, along with your Cost of Attendance (COA) and enrollment status. Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree or professional degree. The maximum Pell Grant award can change each year based upon Congressional funding levels. Students can receive up to six years of Pell Grant Funding.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant
You must reapply every year by completing the FAFSA. The Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Preference is given to Pell Grant recipients whose need cannot be met through federal grants or other financial aid programs. Grants range between $250 and $4100 a year, based on financial need.

Don’t lose your Pell/SEOG Grants
Before you drop a class, or if you receive a failing grade, make sure you aren’t at risk of losing your grant due to unsatisfactory academic progress.
Plan your class schedule wisely
Remember, federal aid will only cover courses that count toward your degree.
Loans aren’t awarded automatically
Unlike federal grants, which are awarded automatically through your FAFSA, you must complete additional steps for loans.
Remember to complete the FAFSA every year!
Complete the FAFSA online using your FSA ID (Casper College School Code: 003928). The priority deadline for applying for federal financial aid is early March for the fall semester and early October for the spring semester.
