‘Post Minimal’ theme for Music of the Masters Concert April 27

This year’s Music of the Masters concert is titled “(Post) Minimal” and will highlight a variety of composers. The concert will be on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. with a preconcert lecture at 2 p.m.
“This year, we are taking a slightly different approach to the ‘Masters’ theme,'” said Zachary Vreeman, DMA. The music selected for this year’s concert “ … is written by composers that can rightly be called masters of their art, but instead of orienting the program around a single large piece of music, we have instead assembled music that is reflective of a major movement in music history,” said Vreeman, choral conductor.
According to Vreeman, the concert will explore the “ … influence more thoroughly in the music of a wide variety of late 20th and 21st century composers from all over the world, composers that are not strictly minimalist but applied a number of techniques explored by the early minimalists.”
The concert features music by Trond Kverno, Arvo Pärt, John Tavener, Sarah Hopkins, Veljo Tormis, Franz Biebl, Eric Whitacre, Jake Runestad, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Pärt Uusber, and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi.
Instrumentalists for the concert are Linsey Thomason on violin and Rebecca Mellendorf on piano.
