‘Dispossession and Heart Mountain’ presentation April 9 at the Goodstein

Michael McDaniel will be at the Goodstein Foundation Library, Rm. 215 A, Wednesday, April 9, to present “Dispossession and Heart Mountain.” Two sessions will be held, the first at 1 and the other at 6:30 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.
The presentation, sponsored by the Casper College Diversity and Inclusion Committee, will look at the relationship between the Crow Tribe, whose autonym is Apsáalooke, who were forced out of their ancestral homeland at Heart Mountain, and the Japanese Americans, who were forced into it, according to Sarah Mailloux, diversity and inclusion committee chair.
McDaniel is the membership and development manager at Heart Mountain, a job he has held since 2024. Before his current role, he worked with Heart Mountain staff to get Heart Mountain-related content into Wyoming schools via the University of Wyoming’s Malcolm Wallop Civic Engagement Program, according to his biography. “In addition to managing (the Heart Mountain) databases and assisting with grant tracking, I am helping the development of new member-focused initiatives like our Family Research program and Nikkei Mapping project.
