Startup Survival School offered at Casper College Feb. 25

Casper College is offering a free mini-event for entrepreneurs and startup owners Tuesday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Startup Survival School is designed as a mini-TEDx series of dynamic speakers specifically for those looking to start a new business, work within a family business, or those who are struggling to get their startup off the ground,” said Makayla Ruebush, director of admissions. Four business tracks are available: brick-and-mortar business, online business, mobile business, and “Put me wherever!” Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Keynote speaker Ari Burback will start the day at 9:15. Burback, owner of GARMS 1 of 1, is a local fashion designer who will be featured in Paris Fashion Week in March. Following the keynote, there will be three sessions, each featuring three presentations for attendees to choose from.

The first session begins at 10 a.m. Mike Stepp, owner of Donells Candies, will speak on “Management Essentials.” Pastor Jim Shade, pastor and business coach, will present “Foundations of Business.” Heidi Foy, finalist in the Casper Startup Challenge and owner of Bullfrog Recruiting, a college rodeo recruitment website, will speak on “Unique Challenges of Online Business.”

Session 2 will begin at 10:50 and feature Bri Martin, owner of Team WyoCity at Real Broker, LLC. Martin will present “Resilience and Strategy — Building Success in Real Estate.” Sharon and Brad Climer will present “Navigating the Unexpected — Learning From Past Mistakes.” Both have their own successful business: Brad with Brad Climer Ministries, which does business coaching, and Sharon, who has entered the Forbes Entrepreneurial contest for her business Restoring Cores, which focuses on post-natal/aging health coaching and Pilates. The third presenters for Session 2 are the owners of the Copper Cup Coffee Co., Ari and David Starcevich, who will speak on “Differentiating Yourself in a Competitive Industry.”

Session 3 will begin at 12:15 p.m. and feature Laura Hunter, executive director of ART 321 and owner of a successful Etsy jewelry business. Hunter will present “The Reality of Online Selling.” Ben Winckler, a local photographer known for his breathtaking destination wedding and adventure elopement photos, will speak on “How to Build Your Brand.” Adam Amick will address “Utilizing Tools Without Going Luxury.” Amick founded Checked In Media and works behind a camera to provide luxury videography services. He also does professional food and drink photography.

The closing keynote, “Entrepreneurial Mindset,” will begin at 1:30 p.m. Jim Chappelow, Casper College business instructor and entrepreneurship faculty member will present the keynote.
