Kick off the new year with novel community education classes.

“The start of a new year is the perfect time to try something new, set personal goals, and explore a new hobby. Begin with a fresh perspective by choosing from our wide range of exciting class options,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator at Casper College.

Classes to be offered in January include Gifts in a Jar, Classical Mat Pilates, HIIT Step Aerobics, Puppy Kindergarten, Faux Milk Glass, and more.

Discover the art of crafting personalized gifts. Instructor Samantha Nelson will show students how to transform recipes into jarred presents, including cooking for two, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and variations. Your gift-giving will become a meaningful and delicious endeavor. Supplies are provided for this class, which will be held on Fridays, Jan. 24, 31, and Feb. 7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Experienced fitness instructor Patty Kempf will teach Classical Mat Pilates on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 28 and running through March 20 from 9-10 a.m. According to Kempf, Pilates targets all muscle groups simultaneously, promotes circulation, improves body awareness, and cultivates a sculpted look. Students will strengthen their core muscles, increase flexibility, and improve balance and posture as they learn to focus on proper breathing while performing low-impact exercises on a floor mat. The class is suitable for all levels, and participants are asked to bring a yoga mat.

Kempf will also instruct HIIT Step Aerobics. HITT, which stands for high-intensity interval training, is a cardiovascular step workout consisting of fast-paced, high-intensity bursts followed by short rest periods, according to Kempf. Participants will work at their own pace as they monitor their progress while improving muscle strength and overall fitness as they sculpt their physique. The class is suitable for all levels and runs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8 to 9, beginning on Jan. 28 and concluding on March 20.

If you have a new puppy, chances are they need some training. Owners will learn how to motivate their puppy, set clear boundaries, and reward good behavior in Puppy Kindergarten. This fun and practical class is taught by the staff of Sit Means Sit. A liability release and proof of rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccinations are required. Please register one human per dog. Each dog should be friendly and nonreactive to people and other dogs. In addition to their dog, participants should bring a 6-foot nonretractable or bungee leash, treats, and a flat collar for their dog. The class will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 6:15-7:45 p.m.

Finally, learn how to transform ordinary glass items into beautiful milk glass pieces. Instructor Lucinda Canchola will teach techniques to create stunning and functional decor to infuse any space with color and vintage charm. Students are asked to bring an assortment of bottles, vases, jars, light-colored acrylic paints, and brushes to class. Faux Milk Glass will occur on Thursday, Jan. 30, from 6-8 p.m.
