February Saturday Club to discover ‘What is a Fossil?’
“What is a Fossil?” is the engaging topic for the Tate Geological Museum’s Saturday Club on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Russell Hawley, education specialist, will show students where fossils come from and how they form. “We’ll be answering these and many other questions with a hands-on ‘Make Your Own Fossil’ activity,” said Hawley.
According to Hawley, modeling clay, seashells, and plaster of Paris will be used “… to stimulate the different stages of the fossilization process.” Students will then be able to take their plaster fossil replica home. Finally, real fossil specimens will be examined, and students will learn how to tell them apart and identify them in the field.
Saturday Club is free and open to children ages 7-14. The Tate Geological Museum is located on the southern end of the Casper College campus; look for the life-size T.rex bronze near the Tate or call the museum at 307-268-2447.
