Cooking chemistry, salsa dancing, and more offered for September learning fun
Fun classes are on tap for September from Community Education at Casper College.
“Autumn is a time of harvest and falling leaves, a period of transition and reflection. Embrace change, embark on a new journey, and find a new passion,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator at Casper College.
If you want to learn how to oil paint, sign up for “Oil Painting Primer” by Jenn Johnson. According to Johnson, students will discover different styles and approaches to oil painting while gaining insights into techniques, materials, and color mixing. Students will be able to create a landscape, portrait, or abstract still life with step-by-step instructions during this class, which is suitable for beginners. “Oil Painting Primer” will be held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7 beginning Sept. 4 and running through Oct. 2.
Salsa dancers, or those wanting to learn, are invited to enjoy a vibrant mix of Latin dances in the class “Salsa Merengue Dancing” Wednesday, Sept. 4 through Oct. 23, from 6-7 p.m. Participants will “… learn salsa and merengue steps, turns, and the distinction between their tempos,” said instructor Manuela Ortiz. Participants will have fun working out whether they come alone or with a partner. No prior experience is required for this class, and each participant must sign up individually.
In the class “Holistic Health Essentials,” instructor Kira Johnson will take students on a journey to “Explore holistic medicine, including herbal remedies, nutritional approaches, and other practices for well-being,” said Johnson. According to Johnson, students will examine the underlying research into holistic medicine, acquire practical knowledge, and learn to achieve balance through a holistic approach. The class will be held each Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7, Sept. 12 through Oct. 3.
All who sign up for “Night at ART 321” will have a fun time on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During the class, students will closely examine letterpress printing, explore various types of letterpresses, observe a printing demonstration, and get their fingers inky while creating a simple print guided by instructor Erick Coates. Students can also browse through the ART 321 galleries, the new printmaking area, and enjoy hors d’ oeuvres and nonalcoholic beverages. The deadline to register for this night of fun is Sunday, Sept. 15.
“Chaotic Kitchen Chemistry” will take everyone into the world of density drinks, molecular gastronomy, and food composition. Attendees will learn to prepare exciting dishes using chemistry and apply chemical knowledge to examine and select their food, according to Kaitlin Ryan, instructor. In addition, the class is kid-friendly, so children aged 6 and older can participate. “Chaotic Kitchen Chemistry” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Each participant must register and pay for this class individually. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Take a peek behind the scenes of the first production for the 2024-2025 theater season at Casper College in the “Behind the Curtain” class. Casper College theater instructors Darrell Wagner and Chontelle Gray will provide an exclusive glimpse into the production of “The Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein.” Gain behind-the-scenes access to the costume and scenic design process and discover what makes this production truly special,” said Gallegos. This exclusive glimpse will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6-8 p.m.
