Auditions for “The Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein” and “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 6:30 p.m., and callbacks will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m.

The Casper College Theatre and Dance Department is looking to cast upward of 18 actors for their musical production of “Young Frankenstein.” “We are seeking and highly encouraging anyone to audition regardless of race, ethnicity, caste, disability, body type, age, orientation, or gender identity,” said Joel Shura, director.

Performance dates for “Young Frankenstein” are October 10-20. Roles include Frederick Frankenstein, The Monster, Igor, Inga, Elizabeth Benning, Frau Blücher, Inspector Hans Kemp, Ziggy, Victor Von Frankenstein, and an ensemble.

The theater department is looking for three actors for the production of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).” Performance dates for the play are November 19-23. “This show is a high-speed roller-coaster condensation of all of Shakespeare’s plays in under 90 minutes and is not recommended for people with heart ailments, bladder problems, inner-ear disorders, outer-ear disorders, Shakespearean scholars, anyone with degrees in Elizabethan history, and/or people inclined to motion sickness,” said Shura. The roles include The “Daniel” Character, The “Jess” Character, and The “Adam” Character.

For both shows, community members are asked to present a personal comedic story totaling no more than 60 seconds and a 32-bar cut of music in the style of the show. For those who feel confident delivering a monologue, please prepare a comedic monologue totaling no more than 60 seconds and a 32-bar cut of music in the style of the show. Those auditioning are asked to bring sheet music in the correct key, hole-punched in a three-ring binder. An accompanist will be provided. Alternatively, you can bring your track on a music-playing device, and a speaker will be provided.

Everyone should sign up for an audition slot on the theater and dance call board. Sign-ups will stay open until an hour before auditions begin. Sign-ups can also be done online. To access or for more questions, contact Shura at joel.shura@caspercollege.edu.

All community members are welcome and encouraged to audition. However, Casper College Theatre and Dance students receive casting priority in all departmental productions, according to Shura. All auditions and callbacks will occur in the Thomas H. Empey Studio Theatre on the south side of the Gertrude Krampert Center for Theatre and Dance on the Casper College campus.
