Enriching opportunities for August from Community Education at Casper College will help you wrap up your summer with fun and intriguing classes.

“Summer is perfect for discovering new hobbies and leisure activities that bring joy and foster growth. Hobbies enrich life, offering a chance to express and discover ourselves,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator at Casper College.

Vegetarian and vegan recipes will be shared in “Vegan Sushi Bliss” on Monday, Aug. 5, from 5-7:30 p.m. “Students will explore vegan sushi recipes where the absence of fish is no oversight,” said Gallegos. Instructor Brittany Elliott will provide detailed instructions for crafting sushi and hand rolls. “Attendees will master the art of making sushi rice and assembling various rolls, using cucumber, avocado, mango, daikon radish, microgreens, and other ingredients. Students will indulge in vegan sushi rolls, a wholesome and budget-friendly choice,” said Elliott.

“Resin: Silicone Molds” will aid students in creating their own dry-erase calendar and mantel clock using epoxy resin varieties. Taught by Danielle Wilson and Katie Lijewski, the class will explore safe and creative mixing and application techniques, incorporating additives like alcohol ink, mica powders, and dyes, then embedding and combining objects in epoxy resin for desired effects. Students will also learn shallow and deep casting, as well as the do’s and don’ts of silicone molds. Supplies, tools, and safety equipment will be available for students in class. “Resin: Silicone Molds” is suitable for all skill levels. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and runs August 6, 8, 13, and 15 from 6-8 p.m.

Students will learn to make Indian favorites in a pressure cooker in “Instant Pot Indian.” Taught by Kat Bohr-Buresh, participants will learn how to make butter chicken, saag paneer, and aloo gobi over fragrant basmati rice. In addition, each person will create their own garam masala spice mix for authentic flavor, according to Bohr-Buresh. The evening will end with a mango shrikhand for dessert. “Instant Indian Pot” will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Community education has the perfect class for those planning on retiring, “Happy Retirement Strategies.” Taught by Todd Durdahl, attendees will learn the strategies for increasing income and retiring sooner than they thought possible. “Students will discover methods to protect and secure their retirement savings, simplify the Medicare and Social Security maze, and implement income planning strategies you can’t outlive,” said Durdahl. The one-day class will run from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Finally, students can enjoy a guided rafting experience with a day trip to Thermopolis. According to Gallegos, “Whitewater Rafting” includes the expert tutelage of Wind River Canyon Whitewater and Fly-Fishing staff. All gear is provided for this three-hour rafting journey. Students are asked to bring a sack lunch, water, snacks, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a change of clothes. The van to Thermopolis departs from the Myra Fox Skelton Energy Institute parking lot. Students are not permitted to drive their own vehicles. “Whitewater Rafting” will occur on Friday, Aug. 9, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
