Joyful and original production next at Krampert
An original dance concert by Amy Fitzsimmons will premiere on Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Barbara N. and Leland F. Scifers Dance Theatre. “Pencils Down” is a joyful and contemporary dance performance featuring … “Casper College students and alumni of various majors who beautifully capture the joyful, energetic, and uninhibited nature of school-aged children,” said Fitzsimmons.
Fitzsimmons, Casper College dance instructor, directed and choreographed “Pencils Down.” The plotline is based on Fitzsimmons’ memories of her time in middle school and taking the FitnessGram PACER test. “I was interested in creating a dance reminiscent of the test that followed its same back-and-forth pathway,” she said.
The dances created by Fitzsimmons complement her idea and touch on many school subjects, including geometry, English, music, foreign languages, science, and recess. “’Pencils Down!’ will immerse audiences into the whole gambit of a school day, showcased through movement, dialogue, and music,” Fitzsimmons noted. “This show serves as a love letter to my younger self, as well as a reminder to embrace joy and a youthful spirit,” she added.
“Pencils Down!” will run February 22-24 and 29 and March 1 at 7:30 p.m. Two matinees will also be held on February 24 and March 2 at 2 p.m. The dance concert is recommended for children 5 years old and up.
