You can start your year off right with fun and educational classes through the Casper College Community Education Department.

“A new year provides an ideal opportunity to venture into something different, set personal goals, and delve into a new pastime. Anyone can begin on a positive note with our diverse and thrilling class offerings,” said Zhanna Gallegos, community education coordinator at Casper College.

Classes to be offered at the beginning of the spring semester include “Jewelry Wire Intermediate,” “Tap-ercise,” “Gifts in a Jar,” “Social Dance Date Night,” “Aromatherapy Wellness,” “Knit or Crochet a Scarf,” and others.

“Jewelry Wire Intermediate” is for those who want to elevate their wire skills and learn to wrap and capture stones in wire. Taught by Teresa Mogensen, students can make a beaded choker using copper/silver wire, a small pendant with a stone cabochon, and more. Supplies are provided for the class; students need to bring their favorite tools. “Jewelry Wire Basics” or a similar class is a prerequisite for “Jewelry Wire Intermediate.” The class will meet on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, February 3-24.

If you love dancing but hate exercise, “Tap-ercise” may be right for you. The class is designed to make fitness fun with an energizing workout to lift your mood and improve muscle tone and balance. The class is suitable for all ages and only requires tap or hard-soled shoes to participate. The class, taught by Judy Ridolfino, will occur Thursday night from 6-7, February 8-29.

Gift giving can become a meaningful and delicious endeavor with “Gifts in a Jar.” Taught by Samantha Nelson, students will learn how to transform various recipes into beautiful jarred gifts spanning breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Students are asked to bring a 16-ounce canning jar to each class. Other supplies are provided. “Gifts in a Jar” will be held Friday, February 9-23, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

“Social Dance Date Night,” a class that continues to grow in popularity, will be offered for the spring semester on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 6-8 p.m. Students are invited to join with their partner, friend, or family member as they learn historical dances, meet new friends, mingle, and fill out their dance card. According to instructor Julie Olive, no prior experience is required; two left feet are welcome, and students can dress in historical costumes if they would like. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served at this alcohol-free event. The deadline to register for this class is Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Laura Johnson invites participants to dive into aromatherapy as they discover the history of essential oils and their benefits in promoting physical and psychological well-being during “Aromatherapy Wellness.” Johnson will also discuss the safe use of oils, including allergies to oil additives and oil products on the market. Students will find relaxation and enjoyment as they experience the application of oils to their hands during class. Supplies are provided, and each student will take home a few samples. “Aromatherapy Wellness” will be held Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Finally, learn how to make a quick and cozy scarf using big knitting needles or large crochet hooks and specialty yarn in “Knit or Crochet a Scarf.” The quick pattern provided by instructor Nancy Pawlowski will allow participants to finish at least one scarf during class, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Supplies are provided, and basic knitting or crochet knowledge is required to take the class.
