The Gertrude Krampert Center for Theatre and Dance is kicking off the holiday season early with a short five-performance schedule before Thanksgiving.

“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” will run Tuesday-Friday, Nov. 14-17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thomas H. Empey Studio Theatre. The Saturday, Nov. 18, matinee is sold out.

Based on the classic film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” the play is actually staged as a live radio broadcast. Five actors will be portraying a variety of characters; two will take on the duties of the foley, or sound effects, artist, and one will perform the group’s stage manager.

“We bring you the opportunity to come into a 1940s “live” radio production of the classic story ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ — a wonderful story of the power of doing good for others. This story recognizes that it can be difficult to do the right thing and to take care of others, but in the end, it is worth it,” said Chontelle Gray, director.

Those attending the production are encouraged to dress for the holiday season in 1940s-style clothing. “Each night’s audience is in the ‘sound studio’ for this ‘radio show’ production,” Gray said. “We want our audience to have fun as they step back into the 1940s for this production,” she added.

Limited tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling 307-268-2500, toll-free at 800-442-2963, ext. 2500, in person at the box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., or online. Tickets for each performance are $12 for adults and $10 for students aged 5 to 18.

The Empey Theatre is located in the Gertrude Krampert Center for Theatre and Dance on the Casper College campus.
