For one day, Casper College sophomore volleyball player and student Milena Franzini was “President for a Day.”
The business administration and economics double major spent her morning visiting with vice presidents and her afternoon with other college officials. Joining the college’s board of trustees for its work session, followed by dinner with the trustees, her day as president came to an end when the monthly board meeting ended that night around 8.
“It was nice to see how the college works and to talk to everybody,” said Franzini, a native of Sao Paulo, a sizeable Brazilian metropolis with a population of over 22.6 million. Franzini noted that one of the things that she most liked about Casper, with a population of nearly 60,000, was the community: “You get to meet so many people, and everyone is caring.”
In her application letter, Franzini stated that if she were president of Casper College, she would improve the Wi-Fi connection on campus, implement “eco-friendly” programs, provide opportunities for students to observe different occupations on campus, improve the fitness center and offer free or low-cost fitness classes, create more parking, and have a weekend shuttle to take students to local businesses. “This year, Casper College is home to many international students, especially athletes, who don’t have a car and can’t go shopping on their own. With a shuttle, they would have more freedom to buy everyday essentials without having to depend on arranging a ride,” she wrote.
Following her graduation from Casper College in May, Franzini is planning on attending a university in Florida to pursue a bachelor’s degree in management.
