Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Our goal is to recruit students from Wyoming’s seven community colleges and the University of Wyoming to participate in the Legislative Internship Program. I encourage your institution to take part in this valuable learning opportunity. Each institution determines its own process for selecting students, whether that be through competitive application or open-enrollment. Each institution also establishes its own academic policies for the internship, including requirements and standards for credit hours to be awarded, and administers the program’s academic component. The Wyoming Legislative Service Office (LSO) oversees the onsite portion of the Program and assigns work to interns in conjunction with legislators. An Intern Coordinator supervises the interns in the State Capitol during the legislative session.

LSO is currently recruiting college interns for the 2022 Budget Session, which begins Monday, February 14, 2022. Hopefully you have each received the packet of information mailed to you last week. The packet includes a promotional flyer and copies of the intern application form, financial aid information, and optional financial aid application for distribution to interested students. These forms are also available on the Wyoming Legislature’s website.

Minimum Qualifications:

Deadline Nov 26th, 2021

How to apply:

Interested students should work with the institution’s faculty/internship advisor to develop a syllabus for the academic portion of the internship and complete the intern application form and optional financial aid application. Please submit completed forms via email to me at Donna.Shippen@wyoleg.gov no later than Friday, November 26, 2021.

LSO will contact students before the December holiday break regarding acceptance into the Program. Students selected to participate in the Program are required to attend an orientation session in the State Capitol on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

We hope your institution will join us in recruiting student interns for the 2022 Budget Session. For questions or more information, please feel free to contact me by phone (307-777-7881) or email (Donna.Shippen@wyoleg.gov).
