About the Library

The Library provides a 70,000 volume collection of materials specially selected to serve the students and faculty of Casper College.

The book collection is supplemented by more than 400 databases and 1,200 electronic journals. In addition, we can provide access to articles via approximately 35 print periodicals, Interlibrary Loan services, and commercial document delivery. The Library provides an extensive program of library instruction in conjunction with various faculty and departments.

Mission

The Casper College Goodstein Foundation Library supports the mission of the college by making available a wide variety of information resources relevant to curriculum support and personal enrichment. We respond to the changing academic, occupational, technological and cultural needs of a diverse population, including those with special needs.

In a learning-centered environment, we enable users to identify information needs, find resources to meet those needs, evaluate the information retrieved, and use it responsibly. The library provides a safe and welcoming environment where all users are encouraged to become independent and lifelong learners.

Vision

The Casper College Goodstein Foundation Library supports the college mission as a vital partner in the educational process. We provide access to information in traditional, current and emerging formats. Experienced, professionally trained librarians collect, organize and provide relevant and diverse resources to users with a wide spectrum of backgrounds, abilities and interests. We emphasize ease of information access and employ the latest in technology to assist on ground and online users. As critical thinking specialists we design instruction to elicit information literacy outcomes. [1]

Customer service is a strong priority. We stress the importance of library as place and work to provide a comfortable atmosphere in which each user is treated with dignity. We collaborate with colleagues at Casper College, within the community college system of Wyoming, and in the larger library community of Wyoming.

We commit to continued growth in all aspects of librarianship, to ethical conduct in all we undertake and to principles of intellectual freedom as expressed in the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights. [2]

Governance

Casper College Library supports 140 Casper College programs, 16 programs with specialized accreditations, and university partnerships with the University of Wyoming and the University of North Dakota. The library utilizes a subject liaison model whereby librarians are assigned specific schools and work directly with department heads and faculty in order to support research, resource acquisition and instructional needs. In addition, the Library Director works directly with the academic deans and the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs to ensure that all programs have access to adequate library resources and support.
