Community invited to ‘Inner Game of Music’ workshop at Casper College
The Casper community is invited to attend an exciting workshop at Casper College on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., free of charge.
Barry Green and co-author W. Timothy Gallwey wrote “The Inner Game of Music,” and Green, who is active as a bass soloist, recording artist, author, and teacher, will lead the special workshops. “Barry’s workshops assist the average joe performer through a professional understanding of the importance of the skills of awareness, will, and trust. This understanding helps them overcome the self-consciousness that can impede learning and performance,” said Paula Flynn. “By offering this workshop, I hope to assist the entire performing arts community of Casper College, the community of Casper, and the upper-level high school student,” noted Flynn, adjunct music instructor.
According to Green’s website, “The Inner Game of Music,” deals with musicians reaching their potential in performance and learning. The book has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide, and Green has written seven “Inner Game of Music” workbooks published by GIA Music for keyboard, voice, instruments, and ensembles.
According to The Inner Game website, “’ The Inner Game of Music’… uses the same principles of ‘natural learning’ Gallwey developed so successfully for tennis, golf and skiing and applying them to his own field, noted musician Green shows how to acknowledge and overcome … internal obstacles in order to bring a new quality to the experience and learning of music.” The methodology employed in the book and the workshop will be invaluable to anyone interested in music, including professionals, amateurs, composers, performers, and appreciative listeners.
The day will be broken into two sections. The first, “The Inner Game of Music Workshop,” will help participants overcome performance anxiety and replace fear and doubt with relaxed concentration. The second will take place at 1 p.m. Titled “Bringing Music to Life Workshop,” participants will be shown how to bring spirit and life to their music while mastering breath, pulse, and movement.
The workshops will take place in the Wheeler Concert Hall in the Music Building on the Casper College campus. To register for the workshop or for more information, contact Flynn at 307-268-2528 or paula.flynn@caspercollege.edu.
The Casper Music Teachers Association, the Natrona County School District, the Board of Cooperative Educational Services, BOCES, the Town of Glenrock, and Casper College co-sponsor the workshops.
