“Parisian Gems” concert Thursday at Casper College

Pianist Vincent Yang will be in concert in Wheeler Hall on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. The “Parisian Gems” concert is free and open to all.

According to his biography, Yang is a Chinese-Canadian who has performed extensively throughout North America and Europe. He has enjoyed performing a wide repertoire ranging from the standards of the Western tradition to giving world premieres of contemporary works.

A prizewinner of many national and international competitions, Yang won top prizes at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the Susan Torres Award, the Grand Junction International Young Artists Competition, and received awards from the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, Young Musician’s Foundation, and the Musical Merit Foundation of San Diego.

Yang made his orchestral debut with the Torrance Symphony, performing Grieg’s “Piano Concerto” at 16. Recent orchestral appearances have included performances with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.

“I began my formal piano studies in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, at 7. With my family’s relocation to California, I began studies at the University of Southern California,” said Yang. “I am looking forward to the release of my debut album later in 2023 featuring musical gems from Paris, including works by Mompou, Chabrier, Ravel and Dukas,” he added. Yang is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts at Texas Christian University.

The Wheeler Concert Hall is located in the Music Building on the Casper College campus.
