Animal House for Children begins in June

The 2023 edition of the Werner Wildlife Museum’s popular “Summer Animal House for Children” will have three sessions over the summer on Thursdays, June 8, July 13, and Aug. 10. Animal House is free and designed for elementary school children and their families.

All programs are taught by naturalist Mike Bardgett and Werner Wildlife Assistant Eileen Lemm. June’s “Bison in a Box” program will allow children to see the bones of an American bison and try their hand at putting the bones back together in their proper order.

In July, “Native Wyoming Animals” will concentrate on animals that existed in Wyoming before people imported exotic species from other places. Bardgett and Lemm will discuss the importance and characteristics of native animals as attendees get a close-up look at individuals preserved in the museum’s collection.

August will bring back “Bats” by popular demand. “Who doesn’t love bats? Come find out how they live, what they eat, how they fly with such precision, and what dangers they face in today’s world,” said India Hayford, museum assistant.

All programs begin at noon and will be held in the museum’s backyard. Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to enjoy following the approximately 30-minute program.
