Fun classes to brighten the holiday season and gift certificates for gift giving are available through the Casper College Community Education Department in December.
Some of the classes offered include Beginning Yemenite Jewish Embroidery, Grinch Tree Arrangement, Tree of Life Ornament, Resin Clock Crafting, and From Doodles to Masterpieces.
Popular instructor India Hayford returns with Beginning Yemenite Jewish Embroidery. Through intricate needlework and embroidery, participants will discover Yemen’s Jewish community’s rich culture and history. They will learn the ornate stitching style and practice various techniques to create a small bookmark or bracelet in the traditional Yemenite Jewish fashion. Project fabric will be provided, and participants are asked to bring three skeins of #5 pearl cotton in any color, two #24 chenille needles, a sharp #2 pencil, a ruler, scissors, and a needle threader if desired. Beginning Yemenite Jewish Embroidery will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Taught by Summer Anderson, participants will put their own unique twist on the whimsical design of the Grinch Tree Arrangement. Students will select from various vibrant color schemes and charming containers and enhance their design skills as they craft a Grinch tree using fresh-cut products. “Whether you embrace your inner Grinch or gift your creation, (you will) spread holiday cheer,” said Anderson. Supplies will be provided for this class which is suitable for all levels. Grinch Tree Arrangement will occur on Friday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Lucinda Canchola will show students how to create a beautiful beaded tree of life ornament, perfect for adorning the Christmas tree or as a thoughtful gift in the class Tree of Life Ornament. Students are asked to bring a 2 to 3-inch metal ring, a small spool of 24-gauge wire, wire snips, needle-nose pliers, and 25-30 beads for the leaves and to be sure the wire fits through the holes of their beads. The class runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Danielle Wilson and Katie Lijewski will lead students in creating a stunning resin creation in Resin Clock Crafting. Students will explore epoxy resin varieties, their different applications, and how to mix and apply them safely and creatively. In addition, participants will learn how to use other additives, such as alcohol ink, mica powders, dyes, and pigments, to achieve the desired effects. According to Wilson, all supplies, including resin, coloring, wood, clock mechanism, and mold materials, are provided, and tools and safety equipment will be available for students. Suitable for all levels, Resin Clock Crafting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Finally, From Doodles to Masterpieces will allow those attending to discover the calming experience of drawing as they craft intricate designs using a simple, enjoyable, and relaxing method. “(Students will) create beautiful, structured patterns that can be turned into unique ornaments, Christmas cards, bookmarks, or wall art — perfect for decorating or gifting,” said Kelsy Lempka, instructor. Students are asked to bring a fine-tipped pen to class; otherwise, all supplies for From Doodles to Masterpieces will be provided. Suitable for all levels, the class will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
