Dr. Larry Smith
Associate Professor of Geological Engineering
Dr. Larry Smith teaches sedimentology, petroleum geology and subsurface methods, geomorphology, GIS, and field geology to geological, geophysical, and petroleum engineering students at Montana Tech. He did his graduate work in geomorphology, stratigraphy, and fluvial sedimentology at the University of New Mexico. He worked in onshore petroleum exploration at Shell Oil for 5 years and then on regional groundwater mapping at the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology for 16 years. His research interests involve stratigraphy of Cretaceous and Devonian rocks in Montana, glacial geology, and the history of filling and draining of glacial Lake Missoula.
