Welcome to the Center for Learning through Service (CLS)!

CLS was established at Casper College in the fall of 2006. The Center is home for several programs including, Help Yourself Academy and classroom Service- Learning, and serves as a clearinghouse for local volunteer opportunities for students through its Civic Engagement Program.

The mission of the Center for Learning through Service (CLS) is to enrich Casper College student learning and address community-needs through student civic engagement. To that end, the Center provides opportunities for students to engage in Service-Learning courses. In addition, interested students can contact the Student Volunteer Services to receive resources on starting a service project or engaging in a service agency or event.
INTRODUCTION:
Welcome Casper College students, and thank you for your interest in public service! We invite you to spend time reviewing programs and resources available through the Center for Learning through Service. CLS staff is available in the Strausner Student Center (CE141) to help individuals Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, or by appointment, (307) 268–2602. Come by to discuss resources, available opportunities through CLS, or your personal public service path!
SERVICE LEARNING:
Service-Learning is a form of experiential learning that combines community service and classroom instruction, with the focus on critical, reflective thinking well as personal and civic responsibility. By contacting the Center, students have the opportunity to find out more information about service-learning, locating a service-learning course or findings programs to satisfy Service-Learning requirements.
STUDENT VOLUNTEER SERVICES:
Unlike Service-Learning, the Student Volunteer Services (SVS) is a resource for students interested in engaging in service outside of a class assignment. SVS is here to provide you with the resources you will need to get involved, whether it means locating an opportunity to volunteer or findings resources to develop a project helping those in the community.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
The Center for Learning through Service finds and distributes opportunities for students to connect with partners that work with many areas in the community. Use our many sources to discover volunteer opportunities, scholarships, grants, community internships, post-graduate programs, and social action.

Each semester, faculty and staff have the opportunity to nominate exceptional students for going above and beyond their required service project. In addition, the Center offers many project grants and scholarships for your students.

By contacting the Center, faculty have the opportunity to receive resources on service-learning, locate service-learning courses or find community organizations to develop service-learning projects.
