The application deadline for scholarships for the 2017-18 school year is fast approaching. All applications must be completed by March 3, 2017.

Did you know that Casper College awards approximately $3 million dollars in scholarships every year? For the 2015-16 school year, more than 2,600 scholarships were awarded.

If you’re interested in pursuing a degree at Casper College, don’t let financial concerns be an obstacle to your goals. Many CC students receive some type of financial assistance, including institutional- and foundation-funded scholarships, student loans, and on-campus work study jobs.

Here are some tips for applying for scholarships at CC.

Who can apply?

You do not need a letter of acceptance to Casper College to apply for scholarships. However, you will need your Casper College student ID number — once you apply for admission, you will receive your student ID number via email.

To qualify for any scholarships at Casper College, students are required to:

  • be a degree-seeking student
  • be enrolled in at least six credits
  • have and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA

Preparing your scholarship application

Essay writing

Plan to spend sufficient time describing your academic and career goals, extracurricular activities, community service, financial information, special circumstances, etc. These are quick essay-type questions, and help reviewers get to know you beyond your grades. It is important to give quality answers to these questions. Points will be given for spelling, grammar, and content — be sure to proofread!

Get to the point! Your answers should be easy to read. Write what you know — your voice will come through if you write about what you know, love, or care about.

You are unique! Tell us what makes you different and sets you apart from the other applicants.

Letter of recommendation

Ask someone who knows you well to write about you and your achievements for your letter of recommendation.

Students are required to request at least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member, employer, teacher, clergy, counselor, etc. Letters from family members will not be considered.

Make it easy for them to write you a letter of recommendation. You could provide a notecard with bullet points about topics they might mention in their letter, especially if the scholarship has specific requirements, like grades or examples of community service. On that notecard, you could also list out your athletic stats if you’re asking a coach for a letter, or examples of classroom achievements if a teacher is writing you a letter.

Remember to include your transcripts

Upload your transcripts to Casper College’s online scholarship portal. If you have trouble, get help! Your application will not be considered complete without them.

Types of scholarships

Scholarships are intended to recognize academic and other achievements, and to assist as many qualified students as possible.

Casper College Academic Scholarships

The goal of Casper College academic scholarships is to recognize high-achieving incoming freshmen students. Awards include the Trustee Academic Scholarship and the Achievement Scholarship. These scholarships are based upon cumulative high school GPA and ACT score. Students who apply for admission to Casper College and submit current high school transcripts before Dec. 1 each year are automatically considered for these scholarships, if they meet the criteria. Only the Trustee and/or Achievement scholarships require no additional application. Awardees will be notified via postal mail. Not all students will receive a scholarship.

Foundation Scholarships

Foundation scholarships are funded through the generosity of private donors and endowments. Criteria for these scholarships vary, and range from part-time enrollment to full-time enrollment, with a minimum 2.0 GPA requirement.

Activity and Athletic Scholarships

Activity and athletic scholarships are selected by the coach and/or sponsor of each activity/sport. Each scholarship requires the recipient to maintain specific eligibility and prescribed participation level requirements to maintain the award. Generally, recipients must attempt and earn at least 12 credit hours each semester and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA each semester. These scholarships are not guaranteed renewable, but reapplication is permitted.
