Not always a photographer, the road to where Moose now sits traveled through such career roadside attractions as sales clerk in several pawnshops, unloader of railroad boxcars of feed and seed, pizza delivery and photo processor. He also worked at a Boy Scout ranch for more than 10 summers, where he taught rifle, shotgun and black powder shooting, worked as a mountain man, chased black bears, got hit by lightning and got the nickname Moose.

Photography entered the picture when Moose started taking photos as part of an Introduction to Photography class to fulfill an art requirement in elementary education while attending LCCC. The next semester he transferred to UW where he started shooting for the Branding Iron (the student paper). This continued for about two years. He then moved on to be the sports photographer at the Laramie Daily Boomerang. Along with sports Moose also shot news and human interest photos. It was also this time when he switched from studying education to journalism. In 2001, Moose left the Boomerang and was hired as a photo tech at the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle in Cheyenne. This soon led to a photographer position.

Other opportunities pulled Moose away from the Tribune-Eagle. During the next several years Moose worked as a lumberjack on a US Forest Service fire mitigation grant, returned to school, served as a photo intern in Hays, KS, and served as the assistant equipment manager for the University of Wyoming football team in 2004, where the Pokes beat UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl.

In 2005, Moose returned to photojournalism by working at the Douglas Budget, in Douglas, WY. While at Douglas, Moose won several awards in both photography and design in the state newspaper competition. In the fall of 2006 he was hired as the photographer at Casper College, and if you are reading this, still holds that position.

Although I graduated high school in Kansas, and that is where most of the family lives now, I am a Wyoming native and hold the Cowboy state close to my heart. Wyoming winters are rough, the wind is constant, but the mild summers and people make it all worth it.

In 10 years of photojournalism I have had the opportunity to experience some amazing things and meet some incredible people. Some of them shaped my life and made me who I am; to them, both the good and the bad, I am truly thankful.

Photography is a wonderful tool that shows society what you see and how it relates to the world, it is a responsibility of the photographer to hold on to that power and support it with the truth. The truth lies in the accurate representation of what you photograph.

The family includes three sisters, and one brother and a nephew. Two of the sisters and my brother are triplets. Of course there is mom. All but one sister live in Kansas. Dad passed in 2001.

In my spare time (yeah, right) I enjoy road trips, shooting sports, especially rodeo, watching baseball (live) and spending time with the dog. He is a pound puppy Beagle named Fred.
