I began teaching at Casper College in the fall semester 2010. This is an exciting career shift for me. Prior to commencing employment at Casper College I have practiced nursing in the acute care setting, predominately focusing on Obstetric, Gynecologic, Pediatric, and Neonatal Nursing. I am a Casper native, and received an Associates of Science from Casper College, and obtained my Bachelors and Masters of Nursing degrees from the University of Wyoming. I have lived and worked in four different countries, including Samoa, Fiji, Australia, and the USA. I am passionate about the impact that experiencing different cultures can have on students and am eager to provide course related activities that will enhance learning through international travel opportunities.
I am involved in teaching first year nursing students both in the laboratory and the classroom setting. During the laboratory and clinical course components, I work with a skilled team of nursing instructors to provide students with the essential skills required to perform nursing procedures in the clinical setting and to equip the students with the foundational patterns of nursing practice necessary to proceed forward in the course. In the classroom setting I team teach the didactic portion of the nursing process and an obstetric course. Additionally, I am involved in the Global Health course and teach an advanced assessment and diagnostic course. My ultimate goal for the students is that they will function independently by the completion of the program.
My late husband was a native of the Fiji Islands; together we have two young, very beautiful daughters. My experience in the countries I lived in was not as a tourist but as a local resident, seeing the world from this perspective transformed me and fueled a fire in me to see lives transformed at every level of society. My interest lies deeply in the developing nations. Most recently, I am eager to spend time in Latin America, learning about the people and their victories and struggles.
