Born in Oklahoma, raised in Kansas, then transferred to a 4-year college in Texas, Crysy is no stranger to the laid-back, country style life typical of the west and mid-west. After living in Fort Worth/Arlington Texas for a few years, Crysy spent two years living in Germany while working on her Master’s degree. Having married an Army soldier while in Germany, she then spent 10 years living on the East Coast in both North Carolina and Maryland. Now divorced, she has returned to her “roots” so to speak of living in wide open spaces under western skies.
While new to Casper in 2012, Crysy is no stranger to Residence Life. “I started as a Resident Assistant in the Fall of 2005 and have pretty much stayed in this career field ever since. I was a Resident Assistant for three and a half years (at both the junior and senior college level), a Hall Director, an Area Coordinator, and an Assistant Director during my Res Life career.” Crysy loves working with students during their college years. “I enjoy the challenges, and rewards, that working in residence life provides. I take pride in my work with college students and can’t imagine myself doing anything else. We have the opportunity to have a direct impact on these students’ lives and help guide them on their journey through their college experience. It is an exciting time for them and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to share it with them while helping to shape their future.”
Having moved around a lot in the past, Crysy is looking forward to being able to settle down and establish some connections in the Casper area. “I’ve finally found a place where I feel that I belong and can truly call ‘home’.” |
| The Area Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Residence Hall community. This includes managing the Residence Hall facilities and serving the students who live there. In addition to the Residence Hall, housing 426 students, the Area Coordinator also oversees Wheeler Terrace, an 18-apartment complex adjacent to the Residence Hall that houses 34 students and the Activities Coordinator. |
Being in Residence Life, I have a job that never ends. Whether it’s early morning staff meetings, hanging out with students, or handling late night emergencies, the career that I have chosen can take up a lot of my time. But, when I do get a chance to have some “me” time, I enjoy relaxing! I have a European short-hair cat (adopted in Germany) named Ludwig (pronounced Lewd-Vig) who gives me a reason to go “home” at the end of the day. He’s been with me through military deployments and a divorce and has become my little buddy. I am also SCUBA certified and enjoy diving Key Largo and Cozumel when I get the chance.
During my college years, in addition to being an RA, I also was a football manager and I LOVE college football, especially if it’s a Horned Frog (TCU, my alma mater) game! Since Casper doesn’t have a football team, I’ve pacified my football addiction with Wyoming Cavalry games in the spring to hold me over until college ball starts again. I also enjoy watching baseball, hockey, and having grown up in the Midwest, love a good rodeo. I grew up with the largest night rodeo in the state of Kansas in my backyard and went every year, and then I moved to Texas. Living on the East Coast and in Germany where rodeos didn’t exist was a shock to my system, but I’m getting reacclimated to life “in the country” again and am thoroughly enjoying it. |
