Casper College Casper College - Ride the Wave!

The original General Education committee was formed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs in August, 2009.

The Committee consisted of three representatives from each of the five schools appointed by the Deans and one representative from Educational Resources. Additional non-voting members consisted of the Committee Chair, Faculty Senate liaison, Assessment advisor, and Graduation advisor. The work of this group was foundational to current assessment planning activities.

A smaller working group was formed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs in November 2012 to develop an Assessment plan requested by the Higher Learning Commission.

The team consists of one representative from each school, and three cochairs representing, faculty senate, assessment, and administration.

The Committee is to fill three charges by Casper College's accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission:

  • Revised General Education requirements for graduation, none of which may be below 1000 level in any major of any school.
  • A statement of the college's goals or intended learning outcomes for all graduates of the college regardless of their degree program.
  • A plan for assessing all of these general education goals or intended learning outcomes and using the results of assessment to improve student learning and inform the planning and budgeting process.

The steps in the work of the committee would include (but not necessarily limited to):

  • Adoption of a General Education Philosophy.
  • Establish General Education learning outcomes for all graduates.
  • A plan for assessing the General Education learning outcomes, with the intent of using the data collected from implementing the plan to improve student learning within General Education and inform the planning and budgeting processes.
