Student Responsibilities as an Advisee
Share information with your advisor regarding interests, goals, educational and
career plans.
Share personal information that has a bearing on your academic career. The
number of hours spent at work, responsibilities to family, financial aid status
and any limitations are all necessary information to advisors.
Be familiar with the college catalog and the student handbook. These are vital
sources of information.
Make a note of your advisor’s advising hours and phone number. When you
cannot meet during the designated hours, you are expected to schedule an
appointment and to call if you are unable to keep that appointment.
Keep a record of graduation requirements. Keep copies of ALL correspondence
from the college and from meetings with your advisor(s). It is ultimately
your responsibility to fulfill the requirements for graduation.
Be familiar with college deadlines, which can be found in the college catalog,
class schedules and the student handbook.
Be willing to contact the appropriate student support services available on
campus.
Be prepared for meetings with your advisor, particularly when registering for
next semester. You should review what courses are still necessary for your
program and have an idea of what courses you would like to take as electives.
Have alternative classes in mind to register for in case classes are closed or
are waitlisted.
Become familiar with Web Advisor, what services you can access from the
program and how to use it. More information on Web Advisor can be found
later in this manual.
Alert your advisor immediately if you begin to have difficulties that are affecting
your class work or continued enrollment.
Make sure the Enrollment Services office has your current address and phone
number. Sometimes they may need to locate you for emergency reasons.
Make sure to make an appointment with your advisor early for advising day.
Meeting with your advisor is required before you can register.
